Written by my birthmother Lynn
YOU WERE THE LABOR OF MY LOVE, CHILD,
YOU WERE THE LABOR OF MY HEART;
WITH ALL MY STRENGTH I PRAYED, TILL
THEY CARRIED YOU AWAY,
YOU WERE THE LABOR OF MY HEART.
MY SOUL HAS BEEN BLESSED TO
EXPERIENCE THE PAIN
OF BRINGING YOU INTO THIS WORLD,
SO THAT YOU COULD LIVE;
THOUGH I COULD NOT KEEP YOU NEAR,
STILL I LABORED IN MY TEARS,
THROUGH THE LONG LONELY NIGHT,
WISHING YOU COULD STAY.
BLESSED BE THE GOD WHO HELPS THE ONE
IN PAIN,
AND BLESSED BE THE ONE TO WHOM THIS
CHILD THAT HE GAVE;
I PRAY YOU'LL LOVE MY CHILD, RAISE
HIM STRONG TO BE A MAN,
WHILE I AWAIT THAT DAY IN HEAVEN WHEN
WE MEET AGAIN.
BUT IF BY CHANCE WE MEET BEFORE AND
YOUR WELCOME I BEHOLD,
THEN MAY GOD BLESS THIS UNION, AND
HEAL THE PAIN WE BORE;
FOR YOU WERE THE LABOR OF HEART,
CHILD YOU
WERE THE LABOR OF MY LOVE.
